Sporty
FlowTown Films was privileged to ride shotgun with our research partners at BOO! when they interviewed sports car drivers for the new line of Audi muscle.
If you haven't heard of it checkout Truth In 24, the documentary produced by Audi highlighting their storied dominance of Formula Racing and the 24 hours at Le Mans.
BTW - The documentary was shot by the same fellas that create the fantastic footage for NFL Films. Can you say, "Formula Racing in super-slow-mo?" Yes, yes you can. And it's free for download on iTunes.

Art And Copy, on a small scale
We've been working with Jimmy Greenway producing a web-series for Pure Bar. They're good and good for ya. Seriously, they're extra yum.
Jimmy's a close friend and a very talented producer, probably best known for his work on the feature doc Art And Copy. It's a super slick look at modern advertising and very worth watching.

Buying Local
FlowTown just wrapped the second year of doing local spots for two clients that are good causes too: the Culver City Music Fest, and Watts Health Center's - Mens' Health Fair. It's nice to be needed :-)
***Update (06/15/11):
We were happy to help out with the promotion of the Music Fest for the third time this year. It's really cool to be involved with a vibrant community like Culver City. I've got a post up on the Art Walk from this year as well.

Principal Plus One
The FlowTown squad added another great pro to the line-up. Irwin Mehlman is a super dude and an art direction genius. Not a believer yet? check him out at irwinmehlman.com

I Know What You Did Last Summer?
Where has the time gone, already almost 2010 wow! Fortunato shot a bunch of the Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon promos you can check 'em out on his site, under the commercial tab.
Meanwhile we've been seeing a lot of interest in how social networking and new media distribution is affecting how people consume media and brand messaging. Two stand-out projects are the work we did for VISA and Microsoft Mobile.

About Time
The showreel is finally ready for viewing. I got the idea to present ourselves in a series of short vinegettes from Matthew Dears' latest music video from Ghostly International and produced by missing pieces.
Check out the video here, it's a really interesting way to produce and think about music videos for new media distribution.

Killer Case Study
We're very proud of this project - Panda Express. It's a great example of how a brand video and a research documentary should work.
I was happy when BOO! asked me to do the brand video with them and it was a fascinating experience to then travel to the Panda Express locations that had been modeled after the ideas expressed in the video.
You can check out both the brand video and the research doc here... watch it now.

Not So Fast
Financing couldn't be arranged. Apparently our new place was tooooo nice. The space was overhauled and is now much more valuable than its neighbors, so it can't be appraised for what's been put into it.
Oh well it's still great to be in Venice.

***Update (03/15/09):
Oh sure everyone said, "Don't worry it's for the best. You'll find a place that's even better!" My response, "You don't feel my PAIN!!!"
...but I have to say they were right. We found a great place in the C-squared; studio to play in, new digs with more room, bonus: closer to downtown and still in spitting distance of Saints and Sinners.
Holy Crap!
Time for new digs. I love Venice and I'm saddened to say it's time to leave. We're bound for Culver City! It's cheaper there. Venice is filling up with "Artist's" Lofts and condos for lawyers and accountants, and the artists are having a hard time vying for property. It’s always like that though, so I’m trying not to be bitter about it... stupid Saudi and Japanese investors selling to yuppie a-holes.
I figure change is the only constant, and you’re either moving forward or you’re slipping back. Meditation and trying to be humble help me navigate the change but standing still isn’t an option.
So I have found solace in the idea that I won’t be leaving my great good-friends, talented associates, and fellow Venutians, but rather the backyard is growing. Besides, we’re only talking 3.5 miles away. And I get a much bigger studio to play in!!!
Bonus: We’re at the other end of the block from Saints And Sinners… I feel a couple of very important staff meetings coming up around happy hour.

Hurray!
FlowTown Films dotcom is live… we’ve got a few more videos to cut and put up. Like the showreel for ’08, and work from GM and Microsoft, so it’s going to be a few days before we let everyone know we’re out, but still it feels good to have something other than a placeholder jpeg at our front door.
